Preface

An extensive research has been carried out in the development of this English Series. Appropriate concepts and values have been integrated in a stimulating manner. It will facilitate the students in learning the English language in an easy and motivating manner. The book is prepared in the light of the National Curriculum. The content given in the book has been carefully planned and aligned with the Students' Learning Outcomes (SLOs) which describe the concepts that the student will be able to learn and comprehend elective targets after completing a specific unit.

The book has been developed in consultation with the language experts and content writers to make it simple but comprehensive. Following are some of the salient features of this book:

• Content / activities have been designed in such a way that SLOs are achieved, while students will integrate all four important skills listening, reading, writing and speaking effectively.
• Pre-reading activities/questions have been included to develop the students' interest in the lessons ahead
• Exercises have been planned considering the benchmarks and competencies defined in the National Curriculum.
• Both formal and informal communications have been used in Oral Communication to guide students about the conversation with different class of people in society.
• A list of difficult words with their meanings has been incorporated at the end of every unit under the heading of Language Focus for vocabulary building of the students.
• "Read Me" boxes have been popped up to explain the grammatical concepts and definitions of different terminologies used in the units.
• Proper exercises have been structured to enhance the creative writing of the students.
• Attractive and thematic illustrations aligned with theme and sub-theme have been depicted to attract the attention of students and to develop the understanding of the topic.
• The text, illustrations and examples have been given from the real life situations to support the social development of the students.
• "Notes for Teachers" boxes have been annotated to guide the teachers how they can achieve the desired objectives.
