Preface


We are delighted to present a series of English textbooks developed for the students of lower secondary. This series of textbooks is created in alignment with the new curriculum 2022.


These English textbooks emphasize on the development of skills such as oral communication, reading and critical thinking, grammar and vocabulary as well as writing skills, which are key competencies defined by the new curriculum framework 2022. The neat structure and design of the book optimizes the overall learning experience. The language used is simple and easy to comprehend with plenty of examples for better understanding. Following competencies have been incorporated in our series of textbooks:


1. Oral Communication:

I. We have incorporated activities such as debates, group discussions, and presentations into each chapter.

II. We have implemented role-playing activities to help the students practice speaking in different contexts.

III. We have included formal dialogues and informal conversations to ensure the oral communication skills.


2. Reading and Critical Thinking:

I. We have incorporated tasks that involve students recognizing different types of reading passages such as newspaper articles, informational texts, and literary texts.

II. We have used engaging texts that require students to make inferences, draw conclusions, and form opinions.

III. We have utilized a variety of reading strategies such as predicting, making connections, and summarizing in each chapter.


3. Grammar and Vocabulary:

I. We have integrated practice exercises into each chapter to help the students become more familiar with English grammar and vocabulary.

II. We have expanded the knowledge of the students by introducing new words and idioms to the texts.

III. We have utilized a variety of language tasks such as sentence completion and multiple- choice questions to help the students apply their knowledge of English grammar to real-world situations.


4. Writing Skills:

I. We have designed writing tasks in each chapter that involve analyzing, summarizing, and responding to a variety of topics.

II. We have given compositions that require a developed thesis statement, multiple supporting ideas, and a conclusion.

III. We have organized activities such as collaborative writing, peer editing, and self- assessment to help students improve their writing skills.


The series of textbooks also provides various innovative and creative activities to ensure effective language learning. These activities include written assignments, group activities, scene recreation, videos and audio and many more. All these activities are designed to meet the cognitive, physical, psychosocial and aesthetic needs of the learners.

The textbooks are accompanied by a supporting instructor's manual, which lays down the detailed guidelines and effective teaching strategies to use while teaching the students. It includes step-by-step instructions that can help instructors to deliver the lesson effectively.


Teaching Strategies:

Some of the teaching strategies given in this series of textbooks are discussed in detail. The teachers who teach our series of textbooks for English language should;


I. Incorporate verbal activities throughout lessons, such as debates, role-plays, and audience- wide conversations

II. Model speaking and use of correct grammar by talking about current events and then having students discuss the topics

III. Assign students to talk about a topic for a few minutes in front of their peers, giving feedback after

IV. begin with open-ended questions and encourage students to express different points of view about a book or article

V. Assign group projects that involve students researching a topic and writing an essay based on their findings

VI. Have students independently read books, plays, or articles and discuss their interpretations of the material

VII. Teach new vocabulary with the help of visuals, such as engaging visuals or flashcards

VIII. Utilize online tools such as Quizlet to help students practice vocabulary and grammar

IX. Incorporate grammar and vocabulary into conversations or activities

X. Analyze passages or texts together and discuss writing techniques used

XI. Model the writing process: pre-writing, writing, editing, and proof reading

XII. Provide step-by-step instructions and give plenty of time for them to complete their writing tasks
